TITLE: SUPERVISOR BUILDING OPERATIONS

Job Summary


Supervises college custodial maintenance staff and oversees all custodial services; interface with internal and external users of facilities.


Scope


This position works in the area of Maintenance and Operations. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students, vendors, trainees, work associates, and general public. Equipment used includes standard work equipment.


Supervision Received


This position reports to the College Facilities Manager; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine and sensitive matters.


Supervision Exercised


This position supervises custodial and temporary employees.


Representative Duties


Organizes, directs, and supervises all custodial services; follows up to insure all assignments have been completed; hires and provides training for assigned staff; directs and evaluates staff; responsible for purchase and issuance of supplies; recommends equipment, vendors, chemicals, and suppliers; maintains inventory list of all custodial equipment; maintains and keeps all custodial equipment, tables, ramps, chairs, and steps in good repair; conducts in-house inspections of campus facilities; assists in writing specifications to purchase, install or repair equipment; develops and implements preventive maintenance programs; maintains MSDS data; assists with the development of policies and procedures related to custodial activities; enforces OSHA, HAZCOM and HAZMAT compliance programs; performs related duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of: practices of institutional maintenance and operations; computer software and maintenance systems software; pertinent compliance programs; inventory control.


Ability to: supervise employees; direct the training of assigned staff; maintain accurate records; perform minor repairs on maintenance equipment; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships in the course of performing assigned duties.


Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be experience in a supervisory capacity in a large Maintenance facility.


Special Conditions of Employment


This position is on a 24-hour emergency call.


Working Conditions


Positions in this class may require strenuous lifting and bending. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
