Job Summary
Supervises the operation of a computer information center
and remote labs including all instructional applications and platforms.
Scope
This
position works in the area of information technology. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff and
students. Equipment used includes
standard office equipment and a variety
of computer hardware and software.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives
general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions
regarding non‑routine and sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on
location/department, may supervise the positions of Computer Lab Technician, Computer
Maintenance Technician, Information Services Computer Technician, Technology
Customer Service Representative, Data Processing Lab Technician and/or other
assigned staff, students and temporaries.
Representative Duties
Supervises the operation of a computer information center
and remote labs including instructional and administrative applications and
platforms; reviews and provides recommendations on hardware and software
purchases; responsible for physical arrangement of laboratory space and
inventory; coordinates hardware, software and cable installations; assists
faculty and staff in developing specialized training materials, special
classroom and lab workshops for students, faculty and staff in electronic and
remote communications; oversees the development of documentation and user's
manuals; conducts in‑service workshops and individualized training
sessions; provides technical assistance to faculty and staff in host/client
software programs; maintains liaison with faculty and staff regarding software
and hardware changes and implementation strategies; develops department budget
and monitors expenditures; prepares computer usage reports and supply
requisitions; supervise and mentor staff, performs duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: District policies; current computer software
and hardware systems; personal computers and workstations; educational and
administrative computer applications; current trends in technology; standard
office practices and procedures; college administrative policies.
Ability to: read and interpret technical manuals; train and
direct the work of assigned staff; prioritize work projects; prepare and
monitor budgets; customize administrative and instructional software;
communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working
relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned
duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in information technology,
education, business or related field and/or experience in the use of
information technologies, operation, installation and maintenance of hardware
and software systems, training and technical writing in a supervisory capacity.

require prolonged monitor viewing. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
