Job Summary


Administers, plans, directs, and evaluates the operation of a state licensed child care facility for children of college students and community members in accordance with college goals and applicable State and funding regulations.


Scope


This position works in an assigned area.  Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students, and child care center clients, vendors, regulatory agencies, and the public.


Supervision Received


This position reports to an assigned Department Chairperson or administrator; receives broad latitude in carrying out assigned duties.


Supervision Exercised


This position supervises Child Care staff and students.


Representative Duties


Administers, plans, and directs all facets of the child care center operations in accordance with licensing and other operational standards, including those of the National Association for the Education for Young Children, regarding curriculum, educational materials, staff/child ratio, health and safety precautions, training of staff, recordkeeping, space utilization and food planning; develops curriculum and lesson plans; schedules activities; trains, supervises, and evaluates staff, students, and volunteers; monitors budget; oversees billing and collection of fees and bookkeeping; maintains health, enrollment, attendance, personnel, and inventory records; conducts or oversees registration of children and orientation of parents; prepares staff and parent handbooks and promotional materials; coordinates special events, guest programs, trips, safety and health maintenance programs; evaluates children's progress and conducts parent conferences; refers families to outside services as needed; arranges for services such as maintenance and procurement with other District departments and vendors; responsible for purchasing of food and supplies; plans snack menus; coordinates volunteer services; meets with advisory groups; maintains liaison with funding and regulatory agencies; performs related duties as assigned


Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of: program administration and development; early childhood education; trends and regulations affecting the operation of a child care facility.


Ability to: establish supportive relationships with children, parents and staff; plan and administer curriculum appropriate to meet the needs of children; supervise assigned staff; develop and monitor budgets; establish and maintain recordkeeping systems; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.


Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field, and/or responsible experience in a child care center involving administrative duties, directing the work of others, and curriculum planning.  Must meet NAEYC accreditation requirements. Familiarity with academic institutions preferred.


Special Conditions of Employment


Positions in this class must meet NAEYC accreditation requirements; must be able to obtain a State of Arizona Community College Teaching certificate, First Aid and CPR certificate.


Working Conditions


Positions in this classification may be exposed to infectious disease and must be able to lift small children as needed. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
