Job Summary


Plans, implements and coordinates programs to provide advisement and counseling to adult re‑entry students.


Scope


This position works in the area of re-entry services.  Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students and the public.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment.


Supervision Received


This position reports to an assigned administrator responsible for overseeing the adult re‑entry program; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.


Supervision Exercised


Depending on location/department, may supervise the positions of Program Advisor, Administrative Secretary, Administrative Assistant and/or other assigned staff.


Representative Duties


Assists faculty, staff and students in developing and coordinating program services for adult re‑entry students to include identification of special educational needs; coordinates an information resource service; organizes and maintains resource materials; supervises students and consultants; establishes and maintains a record system and prepares reports; plans and conducts outreach programs on re‑entry education; develops and coordinates workshops and seminars; provides pre-enrollment advisement; facilitates adult re-entry orientation; designs and publicizes media articles and brochures on program; serves on district-wide strategic planning committees regarding student needs and services; maintains and manages budget for assigned area; coordinates referral service; chairs meetings of district and community advisory committees; performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of: educational and supportive needs; program design and development.


Ability to: advise and counsel re‑entering adult students; plan and implement programs; design and maintain program record systems; prepare presentations; supervise staff; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.


Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in education with formal coursework in counseling, guidance, psychology or human relations and/or experience in program development and community service with re‑entry programs or displaced adults.


Special Conditions of Employment


Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
