Job Summary
Evaluates and develops college curriculum. Consults, trains
and serves as a resource person to faculty, staff, curriculum designers and
representatives from business, industry and agencies. Manages college
curriculum processes and program review.
Scope
This position works in the area of instruction. Work contacts include faculty,
administrators, staff, representatives from other educational institutions,
business, industry and agency personnel and independent curriculum
designers. Equipment used includes
standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives
general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions
regarding non‑routine and sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on location/department, may supervise the
positions of Curriculum Writer, Curriculum Technician and/or other assigned
staff.
Representative Duties
Administers the development and production of college
curriculum; analyzes business and industry training for possible conversion to
college credit courses; consults with faculty, staff, business and industry
representatives on design and development of curriculum; directs program
reviews; analyzes data to determine effectiveness of curriculum and makes
recommendations for program modification; participates in course development
team; develops policy and procedures for the college curriculum office;
develops articulation agreements between the college and other educational
institutions; provides training for faculty, staff and free‑lance
curriculum designers on writing measurable objectives and competencies;
evaluates proposed district curriculum to determine quality and impact on
college curriculum; monitors general studies guidelines and adjusts college
curriculum accordingly; hires and supervises curriculum designers and staff;
serves on various district curriculum committees and on business and industry
advisory committees; monitors the budget; develops reports; performs related
duties as assigned.
Knowledge and
Abilities
Knowledge
of: techniques and procedures used in the design and development of curriculum;
instruction and program evaluation; curriculum offerings of community colleges
and universities.
Ability
to: write behavioral objectives and course descriptions; coordinate complex
activities with multiple parties; research, develop, present, promote and
negotiate projects and agreements; work independently; communicate effectively
orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons
contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in education or a related
field and/or demonstrated experience in the coordination of college‑level
curriculum development and administration.
Special Conditions of Employment
Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
