Job Summary
Provides analytical, administrative and technical support in
coordinating complex projects and activities for course support/distance
learning.
Scope
This position works in an assigned area. Work contacts include administrators, staff,
faculty, students, vendors and a wide variety of people and organizations
interested in and/or working with distance learning programming. Equipment used includes standard office
equipment, conferencing software and systems and a variety of database
programs.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives
general direction in routine matters and specific instructions in non‑routine
matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on
location/department, may supervise the positions of Administrative Secretary and/or
other assigned staff and students.
Representative Duties
Provides the planning, organization, administrative
activities and database implementation for the course support/distance learning
area; maintains liaison with faculty, staff, students and other outside
individuals/agencies as well as other educational institutions and vendor
partners; plans, organizes and directs the design, development and
implementation of databases audio/video support and information management
systems relating to course support/distance learning and print based
coursework; identifies, collects, analyzes data and provides information needed
for decision making related to course systems; represents the supervisor as
requested; monitors developing trends and available services relevant to
assigned area; participates in planning departmental activities, processes and
technology needs; prepares and/or edits statistical reports and generates
regular electronic reports; assists in the preparation and monitoring of
budget; provides research assistance on research projects; communicates with
faculty and students regarding changes with course materials; performs
troubleshooting activities; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge
of: current administrative practices and procedures; project management;
computer use and database applications; basic statistical computations; current
trends within computer technology and software and database applications.
Ability to: represent course support/distance learning to a
wide variety of internal and external constituencies; coordinate course
support/distance learning activities and projects; diagnose processing and/or
equipment problems and develop appropriate recommendations and solutions;
evaluate projects, activities and software programs; work independently while
recognizing situations that require supervisor's attention; organize,
prioritize, direct and evaluate the work of others; produce and maintain
accurate records; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish
cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of
performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in business administration,
information systems or related field and/or specialized training in database
applications with administrative experience in an educational environment
involving project management and liaison responsibilities.
Special Conditions of Employment
Some evenings/weekends may be necessary.
Working Conditions
Position may require prolonged monitor viewing. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
