TITLE: COORDINATOR FINE ARTS FACILITIES AND INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY

Job Summary

 

Coordinates and directs the technical and operational aspects of Fine Arts Performance production, and instructional facilities of all users including Drama, Music, Dance and visiting performers and others as assigned by college.

 

Scope

 

The position works in an assigned area.  Work contacts include administrators, faculty, students, vendors and the general public.  Equipment used includes a variety of multi-media theatrical equipment and standard office equipment.

 

Supervision Received

 

This position reports to an Associate Dean, or designee which may be a Division or Department Chair; receives general direction on routine and standard matters and specific instructions on non-routine and highly sensitive matters.

 

Supervision Exercised

 

This position supervises temporaries and students.

 

Representative Duties

 

Manages and coordinates multi-media teaching labs and the use of a multi purpose performance facility; coordinates the design of Theatre, Music and Dance Department sets as needed; assures readiness of Performing Arts Center for all users; provides training of technical staff and student assistants; trouble shoots or arranges for maintenance and repair of theatrical equipment including the selection of suppliers or vendors for outsourcing; makes recommendations regarding technology and equipment used and may assist in the installation; enforces safety and security regulations in the theatre and adjacent areas; coordinates facilities rental with the Dean of Students according to District guidelines; prepares and administers facilities budget; provides design of lights and sounds as needed by users; assists in the construction of sets; supervises assigned staff; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: design installation; operation of sound and lighting systems; lighting and technical rigging including electronics; equipment set-up, operation, and maintenance; basic fire and safety codes; set design and construction; technology applications; musical and stage entertainment production techniques and requirements.

 

Ability to: coordinate multi-use facilities; troubleshoot equipment malfunctions; install equipment; supervise the work of others; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in Theatre Arts or related field and/or demonstrated experience in theatre technology in the administration of a multi-purpose performance facility.

 

Special Conditions of Employment

 

May be required to work various hours to accommodate performance schedules

 

Working Conditions

 

This position is exposed to high and low light and sound levels. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
