Job Summary
Coordinates the maintenance, operation and repair of an
audio teleconferencing system.
Scope
This position works in the area of Instructional Technology
and Design. Work contacts include
administrators, staff, students, faculty and external agencies. Equipment used includes teleconference
bridge, cassette recorder and reel to reel tape deck, console mixer,
compressor, amplifier, cassette duplicator, television camera, slow scan
television transceiver, soldering station, micro‑computer printer,
oscilloscopes, and various installers hand
tools.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Associate Dean of Instructional
Technology and Design; receives general direction regarding routine and
standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly
sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
May direct work of Clerk Typist and temporaries.
Representative Duties
Provides operational, maintenance, and repair technical
services on radio station equipment; follows and performs established
preventive maintenance schedule; performs repair work on malfunctioning
equipment; designs, constructs, and installs studio and system improvements and
refinements; monitors equipment and supplies, develops procedures for all
technical operations; develops promotional programs for home bound material and
classrooms; researches capital assessment needs and specifications; develops
micro‑computer software; prepares a variety of records and logs; performs
cassette logging; duplication and distribution; recommends equipment purchases;
serves on‑call for emergency equipment failures; trains students,
volunteers, staff and temporary employees in the use of equipment; monitors
audio teleconferencing programs to insure technical standards; works with
telephone company representatives to insure acceptable transmission standards
for programming; screens prospective audio teleconferencing sites; performs
related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: test equipment operation; audio production
concepts and practices; electronic troubleshooting.
Ability to: repair equipment; troubleshooting and analyze
technical problems; train students and staff.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a Certified Electronic Technician (C.E.T.)
or a degree in Electronics and/or experience in broadcast electronics.
Special Conditions of Employment
Position requires on‑call 24 hours, irregular hours
and weekends. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
Working Conditions
Positions in this class may require continuous standing,
stooping, kneeling, and crawling, working on ladders in order to service
equipment and lifting up to 50‑lb. objects.
