Job Summary


Develops, coordinates and implements public relations, marketing and advertising programs, organizational communications and community relations for the purpose of supporting the image, goals and objectives of the District and/or college.


Scope


This position works in an assigned area.  Work contacts include administrators, staff, local and national media representatives, free lance writers, community members, vendors and students. Equipment used includes photo equipment, graphic arts supplies and equipment, audiovisual and standard office equipment.


Supervision Received


This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.


Supervision Exercised


Depending on location/department, may supervise the positions of Graphic Designer, Coordinator Marketing, Public Relations Assistant, Office Assistant and/or other assigned staff; may oversee the work of outside contractors.

 

Representative Duties


Manages the district/college's marketing and public relations programs; plans and prepares the writing, editing and dissemination of news releases and advertising; arranges for radio and television appearances to enhance the district/college's image; responds to inquiries from news media; coordinates the development of information utilizing a variety of media; conducts public opinion polling and market research; maintains liaison with community organizations; develops and implements employee and community relations program; oversees production of promotional materials; coordinates special events and promotional activities; supervises assigned staff; assists management in objectives; manages budget; performs related duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of: print and electronic media requirements for production, broadcast and placement of advertising materials; graphics, photography, design, layout and makeup for publications; marketing and public relations techniques; event planning.


Ability to: supervise staff; develop and coordinate media relations; coordinate various projects; assess needs and establish goals through a variety of marketing strategies; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.



Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in journalism, mass communications, advertising, public relations or marketing and/or experience in marketing, public relations, advertising or community relations with skills in writing, editing, audiovisual production, broadcast and print production.


Special Conditions of Employment


Evening hours may be required for special events or activities.


Working Conditions


Positions in this class may require prolonged monitor viewing. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
