Job Summary
Directs the coordination and contractual arrangements with
local mortuaries regarding the use of clinical assignments for students. Directs the acquisition and disposition of
human remains for the educational purposes of the Mortuary Science Program.
Maintains embalming room and cremation equipment in accordance with OSHA
requirements.
Scope
The position works in an assigned area. Work contacts include faculty, students,
staff and vendors, funeral homes, preceptors and industry representatives. Equipment used includes standard office
equipment and various types of equipment related to embalming.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Program Director. Receives
general direction and broad instruction as to goals and objectives.

Representative Duties
Administers the acquisition and disposition of human remains
for the educational purposes of the Mortuary Science Program; directs
coordination and contractual arrangements with local mortuaries regarding
clinical assignments for students; assists faculty in coordinating activities
of the school's laboratory program; maintains embalming room and necessary
clinical and program supplies; oversees the preparation of assigned contracts;
maintains accurate records regarding student laboratory cases, laboratory
assignments and the tracking of human remains; assists faculty as needed in
laboratory experiences for embalming and restorative art; assists in the development of continuing
education programs for licensed mortuary personnel; represents the school at
State Funeral Board meetings; serves as a liaison to the Mortuary Science
Advisory Council and the Arizona Funeral Directors Association; coordinates the
functions of information processing, printing, property control and general
operations; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge
of: current funeral practices and procedures; state legal requirements; the
range of mortuary services and products; OSHA requirements.
Ability
to: manage assigned students within a modified and diverse mortuary setting;
organize and prioritize workflow; create and follow through with outside agency
contractual agreements; represent the program as an expert in the field of
mortuary science; coordinate complex programs; communicate effectively orally
and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons
contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a graduate of an American Board accredited
program in Mortuary Science and hold both State of Arizona Funeral Director and
Embalming License in good standing or able to obtain same and experience as a
licensed member of a funeral home staff and cremation certification.
Special Conditions of Employment
A graduate of an American Board accredited program in
Mortuary Science and hold both State of Arizona Funeral Director and Embalming
license in good standing or able to obtain same. Must have HBV inoculation.
State of Arizona Class D Driver's License required. Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License if required. Annual update of blood-borne pathogens.
Working Conditions
Local and county travel required. Exposure to hazardous chemicals. Must be able to lift human bodies.
