Job Summary
Promotes an understanding of plural cultural societies of
Arizona and the Southwest. Directs and
coordinates classes, activities and programs for the Southwest Studies Program.
Scope
This position works in the area of Instruction. Work contacts include administrators,
faculty, staff students and the public.
Equipment used includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the College President; receives
broad instruction as to goals and objectives in area of responsibility.
Supervision Exercised
None.
Representative Duties
Serves as a resource and liaison for the colleges and the
community; represents district/colleges as a public speaker; maintains cultural
and historical identities through lectures, courses and travel; directs, plans,
organizes, and implements faculty symposium; organizes, implements and
moderates Southwest Studies series; assists Southwest Studies faculty in
overall planning and implementing new curriculum; chairs faculty coordinators
committee meetings; plans, coordinates and implements a series of
interdisciplinary humanities faculty workshops; plans and directs field study
programs; evaluates proposed research activities; coordinates class and
activities; prepares and monitors budget; may instruct classes; performs
related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge
of: curriculum planning and development, program management; cultural societies
of the Southwest; instructional methods.
Ability to:
plan workshops and lectures, coordinate class activities; administer budget;
instruct classes; publicly address community groups; communicate effectively
orally and in writing; and establish cooperative working relationships with
persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree with administrative
experience in a multi‑cultural program.
Special Conditions of Employment
Incumbents must be available to travel. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
