Job Summary
Plans, designs, and directs, a comprehensive multicultural
program in conjunction with other student services departments, local schools,
community groups for the purposes of enrollment of minority students, retention
to promote a better understanding of ethnic cultural values.
Scope
This position works in the area of student services. Work contacts include administrators,
faculty, staff, students, and the public.
Equipment used includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to a college dean or designee who is
responsible for student services; receives general direction regarding routine
and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine matters
and highly sensitive matters
Supervision Exercised
Supervises assigned staff, and students.
Representative Duties
Administers the multicultural program and retention efforts
of the college; plans, organizes, implements, and supervises
multicultural/retention/recruitment programs; coordinates functions with other
college departments and personnel; supervises, and trains assigned staff;
prepares reports, materials and formal presentations for program use and
implementation; develops, plans and initiates outreach activities in schools,
community agencies, organizations, business and industry to encourage
minorities to attend higher education programs; recommends and administers
departmental budget; serves on college/district committees; coordinates
tracking systems, data collection analysis
and follow‑up surveys; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and
Abilities
Knowledge
of: student development theory and practice; current management practices;
minority population(s) to be served; program development and public relations; governmental and special
funding guidelines; regulations applicable to multicultural and international
programs.
Ability
to: organize and manage a complex college program; supervise the work of
assigned staff; prepare maintain, and interpret statistical data; prepare and
administer budgets; communicate effectively orally and in writing and establish
cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of
performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in Education, Sociology or
related field and/or experience in student recruitment/retention programs, in a
supervisory capacity.
Special Conditions of Employment
May be required to work a flex schedule, extended hours,
weekends and extensive local travel. State of Arizona Class D Driver's license.
