Job Summary
Collects, analyzes and interprets institutional data and
provides findings and reports for use in decision making and to support the
college’s strategic initiatives.
Scope
This position works in an assigned area. Work contacts include administrators,
faculty, staff, government organizations and other education institutions.
Equipment used includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives
general direction regarding routine matters; specific instructions regarding
non‑routine and sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on
location/department, may direct the work of Research Assistants, students and/or
temporaries.
Representative Duties
Collects, analyzes and interprets data for research projects
such as surveys of students, employees, businesses and the community, labor
market and demographic analysis, academic achievement results and student
tracking; develops procedures for collecting, analyzing and reporting data
relative to current and projected student enrollments or employee data;
produces and disseminates reports; investigates specific department/district
issues; develops and maintains databases through the use of data warehousing;
files or coordinates the filing of required state and federal reports; provides
information and/or advice on using the district's database; provides research
and research design assistance to district committees, administrators and
faculty; maintains liaison with external agencies whose research involves or
affects the district; provides liaison with computer services to ensure the
adequacy of programs and systems used by departmental staff and external
research efforts; establishes policies and procedures for research projects;
designs and implements surveys;
participates in the planning and organization of district conferences
related to the research function; makes oral and written presentations on
district research; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: statistical analysis and interpretation
methods, techniques and procedures; research techniques; current techniques and
procedures used in program evaluation; instructional system design and
evaluation; survey design; educational, demographic and market research and
relevant data resources; database design and management; statistics; use of
mainframe, data warehousing environments and other databases.
Ability to: design, conduct and interpret survey and
statistical research data; analyze and evaluate data; investigate/research
specific issues; conduct statistical analysis using mainframe computer or other
sources; design and develop databases; coordinate the work of individuals;
prepare reports; evaluate database management software; use available computer
systems and equipment; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish
cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of
performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in research design, public
administration and/or statistics with experience in designing and/or conducting
institutional research projects.
Experience in an educational institution preferred.
Special Conditions of Employment
Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
