Job Summary
Incorporates instructional design
techniques in the
development and delivery of materials used for instructional technology
systems, specifically multimedia technologies.
Oversees, plans, develops, and provides technical support and
coordination of/for media research, development and production for the
college. Develops and/or assists with the
development
of instructional multimedia delivered via the Internet.
Scope
This position works in the area of
instructional
multimedia. Work contacts include
faculty, staff, administrators, and vendors.
Equipment used includes standard office equipment and a variety
of
computing, video and camera equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned
administrator, receives
general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific
instructions
regarding non routine matters and sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on location/department, may
oversee assigned staff
on a project basis.
Representative Duties
Plans, evaluates, and administers the
development of
instructional multimedia; develops multimedia presentations for
instructional
purposes such as screencasts, digital videos, flash/flex technologies;
writes
code for software applications used; works primarily with faculty and
congruently assists staff with the research and development of tools,
methods,
and techniques used for delivering instructional media via the web
(audio,
video, text, and related technologies); coordinates and conducts formal
and
informal training workshops/classes in multiple formats; provides
trouble-shooting and computing assistance to computer systems users;
researches, evaluates, and advises on current and future trends and
developments in instructional technologies related to multimedia
systems and
practices; advises in the planning of capital budget items and
acquisition of
capital goods and services; may provide liaison between technical
IT/lab staff
and users; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of methods, practices, equipment
and terminology
used in instructional media development with an emphasis on
instructional
design theories and Internet multimedia development and delivery.
Ability to oversee assigned staff; manage,
plan and organize
projects; identify, coordinate and recommend technical solutions for a
multimedia project; use various multimedia software programs;
communicate
effectively orally and in writing, establish cooperative working
relationships
with persons contacted in the process of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training,
and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in media production
and/or
web design and development, a graduate degree in
educational/instructional
technology, and/or experience in media production and web development.
Special Conditions of Employment
May be required to work evening or weekend
hours.
Working Conditions
Some positions
may require a
Class D Driver’s License. Positions in
this class may be required to lift up to 50-lb. objects and spend
considerable
time typing and viewing a computer screen.
