Job Summary


Develops, organizes and implements job placement and career development/planning activities at assigned location.


Scope


This position works in the area of career planning and placement.  Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, business/industrial representatives, students and the community.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment, various software, audio visual equipment and videoconferencing equipment.


Supervision Received


This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and sensitive matters.


Supervision Exercised


Depending on the location/department, may supervise the positions of Program Advisor, Office Coordinator and/or other assigned staff, students and temporaries.


Representative Duties


Coordinates the career development/placement program for students and graduates seeking employment; provides recruitment activities for business and industry; maintains and updates career resource information establishing summer job possibilities; serves as a liaison between business, college/district divisions, departments and students for purposes of communicating career development, employment opportunities and trends; maintains part‑time and summer placement opportunities, refers student applicants to part‑time employment opportunities; maintains an up‑to‑date part‑time job announcement directory; maintains and provides statistical analysis regarding career development/placement activities; provides career advising and counseling, test interpretation and guidance; assists students and community members in writing resumes, completing applications and advises on interviewing techniques; researches trends and orders resource materials and audio visual tapes; analyzes and implements methods for improvement of services; plans, organizes and hosts career fairs, development workshops and seminars; plans arrangements for speakers; updates job boards at the college; develops brochures and booklets advertising career and development opportunity services; coordinates a series of career forum activities; performs and interprets interest and vocational assessments; develops and manages project activities; may prepare reports and evaluations of specific programs; performs related duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of: advising and counseling techniques and principles of applied career development and planning; program development.



Ability to: coordinate activities; work well with various groups; accomplish program objectives; interpret statistical data; prepare presentations; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.


Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in counseling, education or management and/or experience in community college placement/career center, career advising, career exploration, testing or job development.
