Job Summary


Develops, implements and evaluates a variety of wellness programs; assists individuals in setting and achieving health, fitness and wellness goals; provides technical/instructional assistance in physical fitness at a college fitness center.


Scope


This position works in an assigned fitness center.  Work contacts include administrators, students, faculty, staff and the general public.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment, weight and cardiovascular machines, fitness testing equipment, skin-fold calipers, blood pressure monitor, audio‑visual equipment and cameras.


Supervision Received


This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and sensitive matters.


Supervision Exercised


Depending on location/department, may supervise the positions of Aerobic/Fitness/HIC Tech, Administrative Secretary and/or other assigned staff.


Representative Duties


Plans, develops, implements and analyzes wellness and physical fitness programs at assigned College; develops, prepares, implements and markets college wellness/fitness programs; identifies and develops opportunities with businesses and the community; prepares and monitors budget; promotes, assesses and evaluates wellness programs; determines equipment needs of the college fitness centers; coordinates workout programs; demonstrates fitness techniques and equipment usage; reviews testing and programming techniques; maintains class attendance and workout records; troubleshoots and performs minor maintenance on equipment; maintains equipment repair records; creates and distributes promotional materials; hires, trains and supervises assigned staff; performs related duties as assigned


Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of: exercise science; theory and operations of physical conditioning equipment; exercise programs; marketing strategies; organizational policy and procedure; supervisory techniques.


Ability to: design and implement fitness center and wellness programs concurrently; plan, budget and achieve program goals; analyze relevant data; train and supervise fitness staff; demonstrate and interpret information related to physical fitness; perform minor maintenance of fitness center equipment; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.


Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in physical fitness, physiology or anatomy and/or experience related to fitness assessment, workout prescription and circuit training experience; demonstration of management and/or supervisory experience.


Special Conditions of Employment


Position may require some evening and split shift assignments.


Working Conditions


Position may be required to lift up to 50lbs. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
