TITLE: MANAGER INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Job Summary


Manages the operation of college computer and networking systems and services including both administrative and instructional applications, including local area networks, systems administration, database administration and telecommunications.


Scope


This position works in the area of information technology.  Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff and students.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment and a variety of computer hardware, software and telecommunications equipment


Supervision Received


This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.


Supervision Exercised


Depending on location/department, may supervise the positions of Systems Administrator, Computer Maintenance Technician, Computer Lab Technician, Network Technician, Help Desk Analyst, Computer Operator, Property Control Technician and/or other assigned staff, students and temporaries.


Representative Duties


Manages and coordinates the operations of college computer and networking systems; coordinates the distribution and installation of computer equipment; sets‑up and maintains computer equipment; recommends equipment and software purchases; maintains inventory control; assists in the preparation of budgets; provides technical assistance in the planning and implementation of computer information systems and telecommunications; supervises staff; may oversee user support and computer repair; performs related duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of: operation of computer systems; information systems management; networking, telecommunications, applications and software packages; equipment installation and maintenance.


Ability to: read and interpret technical manuals and specifications; direct the work of others; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.


Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in computer science or a related field and/or experience in the operation and maintenance of computer systems in a supervisory capacity.

Working Conditions


Positions in this class may be required to lift up to 50‑lb objects and crawl through small areas. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
