Job Summary


Directs and administers the Media Services department responsible for technical support to classrooms. Oversees the television broadband distribution system and redistribution of commercial cable television programming.  Develops personal and departmental web pages and oversees library media collections.


Scope


This position works in the area of media services.  Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, vendors, contractors and outside agencies and individuals using the college facilities.  Equipment used includes a variety of media and teleconferencing equipment, repair equipment and standard office equipment.


Supervision Received


This position reports to an assigned administrator. Operates under broad direction. Receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and sensitive matters.


Supervision Exercised


Depending on location/department, may supervise the positions of Manager Media Services, Audiovisual Technician, Audiovisual Assistant, Office Coordinator and/or other assigned staff.


Representative Duties


Plans, manages and implements technical support to classrooms which includes equipment delivery, installation, maintenance and repair; maintains a comprehensive equipment inventory and provides leadership for the implementation of new technology and services; assists the college in planning technology delivered formats; recommends staffing and facility needs to supervisor; conducts on‑site assessment of technology and facilities; directs training to support the use of technology; responsible for the design, operation and programming of the college television broadband distribution system; oversees the interactive video teleconferencing system and classrooms; develops and maintains on-line library media catalog and has responsibility for the library media collection which includes circulation of materials, maintenance of patron records and providing collection and acquisitions of new titles; oversees production of media materials and duplication services for students; develops personal and department web pages; develops and recommends budget requests for operational and capital funds; administers approved budgets in accordance with college and district guidelines; performs related duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of: current practices in multi-media presentation systems; maintenance, operation and instructional uses of audiovisual equipment; scheduling and inventory control; video production; staff development and budget preparation.


Ability to: plan, direct, implement and evaluate instructional technology equipment; supervise assigned staff; coordinate activities with a variety of college staff and departments; assist in the delivery of college‑level courses through communication technologies; prepare and administer budget; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.


Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in technology, electronics or related field and/or experience in telecommunications or related field in a supervisory capacity.


Special Conditions of Employment


Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
