TITLE:  CHIEF ENGINEER MCTV

Job Summary

 

Provide oversight and technical support all Maricopa Community College Television studio and remote production operations and maintain technical aspects of MCTV’s on-air presence. Performs and executes all necessary functions of broadcast television which include planning, maintenance, and emergency services in keeping MCTV signal on air.


Scope

 

This position works in the area of MCTV. Work contacts include all MCTV staff and broadcast equipment vendors and their support engineering staff. Equipment used includes broadcast studio technology (analog and digital); program distribution (analog and digital) and remote mobile truck.

 

Supervision Received

 

This position reports to the Manager TV Operations; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters and specific instructions regarding non routine matters. 


Supervision Exercised

 

This position supervises assigned staff, temporaries, students, and volunteers.


Representative Duties

 

Prepares and administers routine preventive maintenance schedule for all studio, program distribution, remote, mobile truck and transmission equipment; recommends immediate and long range equipment needs; monitors the station’s signal to insure that technical performances meets the standard of cable company, Maricopa Community Colleges and Federal Communication Commission; performs repair work on malfunctioning equipment; assists in the preparation of operating and capital equipment budgets; performs related duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: public telecommunications laws; technical operations of a broadcast television station distribution system, remote and mobile truck video production systems and complies to broadcast and video technical specifications.

 

Ability to: maintain compliance with FCC rules and regulations; solve technical and programmatic emergencies; train and supervise technical staff; communicate effectively orally and in writing, establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the process of performing assigned duties.


Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in electronics or related field and or experience in television broadcast facility in a supervisory capacity.


Special Conditions of Employment

 

On call 24 hours.


Working Conditions

 

Positions in this class may require lifting up to 50-lb objects; may require prolonged standing, lifting, bending for extended periods of time. Some positions may require a Class D Driver’s License.
