TITLE: COORDINATOR LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING

Job Summary


Coordinates, directs and implements law enforcement training programs. Coordinates and develops Public Safety procedures.

 

Scope


This position works in an assigned area.  Work contacts include administrators, staff, students, and the public.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment, various firearms and less lethal force equipment.

 

Supervision Received


This position reports to an assigned administrator responsible for the program; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.

 

Supervision Exercised


Provides direction and evaluation of assigned adjunct faculty, and instructors.

 

Representative Duties


Coordinates facilities, equipment and teaching materials required for law enforcement training; develops, coordinates and upgrades curriculum and teaching materials required by state and federal regulations for police academy programs; prepares appropriate budgets and maintains property control on all equipment and supplies; assists in scheduling all classes and assigns instructors; maintains the highest quality of training consistent with requirements set forth by the state and federal government or certification agency; maintains records on all students;  interviews and advises students as necessary for admittance to the programs; interacts with and evaluates adjunct faculty; tracks department statistics and provides reports to administration; researches current and emerging issues facing campus law enforcement and safety, develops, coordinates and monitors college safety procedures; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of: police academy equipment; practical application of law enforcement training, state and federal police academy regulations; police procedure development and administration.

 

Ability to: advise students; interpret data and provide analysis on data; establish needs of public and private industry; evaluate faculty; monitor the budget; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be college coursework and certification as AzPOST General Instructor or Administration of Justice by the State Community College Board with demonstrated training and administrative experience.

 

Special Conditions of Employment


Possession of Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Board Instructor certification.

 

Working Conditions


May be required to lift up to 50-lbs on occasion.
