Job Summary
Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates instructional
support services to students, employees and faculty to enhance their learning
experience. Assists in staff development and training on educational
applications of technology.
Scope
This
position works in information technology. Work contacts include administrators,
faculty, staff and students. Equipment
used includes standard office equipment
and a variety of computer hardware and software.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator. Operates under broad direction. Receives general direction regarding routine
and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and
sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on
location/department, may supervise the positions of Network Technician, Information
Services Computer Technician, Administrative Secretary and/or other assigned
staff. Provides consultative direction
and training to users of instructional media equipment.
Representative Duties
Plans, develops and evaluates the initiatives related to the
Computer Commons; provides leadership and management of the Computer Commons;
advises faculty/staff on development and implementation of new instructional
applications, programs and services; conducts individual and in‑service
training related to the use of instructional technology applications; actively
supports the faculty resource area; recommends and manages operational and
capital budgets in area of responsibility; assists college with planning for
instructional media needs and opportunities; advises and serves on appropriate
committees; manages inventory and distribution of equipment and software;
performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and
Abilities
Knowledge
of: instructional design and integration of instructional technology in the
learning process; computer related hardware and software for educational
applications; current trends in instructional technology/media services;
instructional support services; supervisory techniques; budget preparation;
staff development; program administration.
Ability
to: plan, direct and evaluate instructional technology/media applications in
the learning process; coordinates activities with faculty, staff and other
interested parties; develop and deliver individual and group training sessions;
plan for future applications of instructional technology/media equipment and
software; organize office procedures and maintain accurate records and
documentation; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish
cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of
performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in instructional
technology, business, education, instructional support services or related
field and/or experience in instructional technology related services, or
related fields with teaching or training experience.
