Job Summary

 

Plans, directs and evaluates evening, weekend, summer, non‑credit and/or credit courses and programs of the college/district to meet industry and community training needs and promote maximum student recruitment and retention.

 

Scope

 

This position works in an assigned area.  Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, business/industry, government agencies, community organizations, and students.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment.

 

Supervision Received

 

This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.

 

Supervision Exercised

 

Depending on location/department, may supervise the positions of Administrative Assistant, Adjunct Faculty, Coordinator Instructional Programs, Coordinator Adult Basic Education, Community Education Technician, Clerk Typist and/or other assigned staff.

 

Representative Duties

 

Plans, develops, organizes and administers credit and/or non‑credit and related college/district programs in area(s) specified; hires, supervises and evaluates staff and part‑time faculty; develops and controls budget; markets programs to the community; may provide services to the community as requested; maintains liaison with business and community organizations to assess educational and training requirements; prepares promotional materials for assigned programs; prepares progress reports on status of programs; develops plans, programs, and services to ensure student recruitment and retention; may plan and write proposals for grant funding; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: curriculum development; current practices in the delivery of non‑traditional educational services; education and training requirements of business and industry.

 

Ability to: supervise and evaluate administrative and instructional staff; prepare and control budgets; design programs to meet the needs of business/industry and/or the community; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in adult education or related field and/or experience in the coordination or provision of educational services to meet the needs of business and the community.

This classification requires working non-traditional hours.
