Job Summary
Directs and organizes the operations of the centralized Library Technical Services organization. Works in conjunction with the College libraries professional and staff to coordinate LTS technical services and programs to ensure the efficient operation.
Scope
This position works in an assigned area. Work contacts include staff, administrators, faculty and vendors. Equipment used includes standard office equipment and a variety of computer hardware and software.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises assigned staff including LTS operations staff.
Representative Duties
Provides functional direction and strategy for the
operations of the centralized LTS organization for all functions including
acquisitions, serials, cataloging, inter-library loan, and processing; provides
leadership and direction in new library technologies, especially digital
collections and the use of computer technology; work closely with College
library staff and as a member of inter-college library management teams to
provide strategic direction for all MCCCD libraries; work closely with the LTS
application administrator to coordinate the operations of the LTS applications
including functional requirements, testing, and ongoing analysis of suitability
and future needs; negotiate and manage vendor contacts for electronic and print
resources; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: library operations including acquisitions,
cataloging standards and OCLC, inter-library loan and copyright, XML and
metadata standards, digitizing standards, techniques, and software, automated
library applications (Integrated Library Systems) and project management.
Ability to: supervise assigned staff; manage, plan, and
organize multiple projects; identify, analyze and recommend solutions to system
problems; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; establish
cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of
performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be an ALA accredited MLS degree, and
responsible experience in a multiple college/branch library setting in a
supervisory capacity.
