Job Summary

 

Plans, develops, directs and administers instructional support programs and services in the Learning Center for the colleges.

 

Scope

 

This position works in the area of the Learning Center.  Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students, community and outside agencies.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment, VCR, video camera, sound-on-slide and language master, and a variety of computer lab equipment.

 

Supervision Received

 

This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.

 

Supervision Exercised

 

Depending on location/department, may supervise the positions of Coordinator Learning Center, Learning Associate, Learning Center Technician, Student Services Specialist, Student Services Technician, Computer Lab Technician, Office Coordinator, Administrative Secretary and/or other assigned staff.

 

Representative Duties

 

Plans and evaluates individual learning programs for students and community members with special needs; directs center planning, development and implementation of programs; develops and directs tutoring programs and services; coordinates basic skill and credit courses with faculty; oversees Development Education credit and support services; monitors, evaluates and designs procedures for gathering data; researches funding sources; prepares proposals and reports; performs academic advisement for basic skills; recruits and schedules tutors; supervises, trains and evaluates assigned staff; assists in facilities planning; updates computer lab and resources; maintains liaison with various departments regarding program; provides training and workshops for faculty, staff and students; maintains a variety of records, reports and data; plans, prepares, administers and monitors budget; evaluates new software and other media materials for use; may develop and implement procedures for non-credit courses; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: learning assistance operations and techniques; tutoring techniques; learning assessment; data analysis; grant/proposal writing; a variety of computer lab equipment.

 

Ability to: develop specialized learning assistance programs; make small or large group presentations and conduct individualized instruction; supervise assigned staff; prepare and monitor budget; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 


Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree and/or experience in college‑level learning assistance programs, instruction, or related field.
