Job Summary

 

Develops, plans, implements, administers and evaluates service-learning programs that include civic engagement, student volunteers, pre K-12 consortia and coordinates other projects involving state and local community coalitions and agencies.

 

Scope

 

This position works in an assigned area. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, teachers, students, educational institutions, nonprofit agencies, volunteers, business or industry, and governmental agencies. Equipment used includes standard office equipment.

 

Supervision Received

 

This position reports to an assigned dean; receives general direction regarding routine matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine matters.

 

Supervision Exercised

 

Supervises managers, staff, students, AmeriCorp VISTA members, temporaries, work-study and volunteers.

 

Representative Duties

 

Develops, plans, markets, organizes, administers, evaluates, and assesses service-learning and other community partnership programs; service-learning combines community service with classroom instruction and focuses on critical thinking, value clarification, and social responsibility; provides direction for faculty, students and community members by placing and documenting service-learning students; designs service learning programs for faculty and students; facilitates and implements professional development and training for faculty and staff; assists academic departments in developing methodology and strategies for service-learning; presents service-learning programs to faculty, staff, community and professional functions; collects data and follow-up survey results to assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs; coordinates service-learning program with community agency managers and directors, pre K-12 school administrators, principals, instructors, college faculty, business/industry personnel; prepares and monitors budget(s); identifies and prepares applications for alternative funding sources, including funding for AmeriCorp VISTA members, grants, evaluation and reporting on programs; participates on college and community boards; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: service-learning models and methodologies; practices in the delivery of non-traditional educational services; student leadership/development theory and practices; curriculum development and instructional design; community and school partnerships models; high school and community college missions, programs and practices; school and community issues and dynamics; learning communities and first year experience theories and practices.

 

Ability to: identify and evaluate future needs/trends and develop responsive programs and coordinate with external constituents; coordinate activities of faculty, staff, diverse student programs; plan, develop, and implement new programs and services; develop, promote, and implement non-traditional programs; present programs to a variety of audiences; plan, manage, and organize multiple projects; identify and analyze problems/issues and recommend strategies and solutions; direct and evaluate the work of others; prepare statistical and narrative reports, communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in education or related field and/or experience in service-learning or community and business related partnership programs and instructional development.

This position may require local and regional travel.
