Job Summary
Plans, designs and directs a comprehensive student
leadership program, student governance, student activities and special events
for the college.
Scope
This position works in the area of student activities. Work contacts include administrators,
faculty, staff, students, federal and state government agencies and the
public. Equipment used includes
standard office, audiovisual equipment and handicap equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives
general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions
regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters, with broad latitude
given for development of program objectives.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on
location/department, may supervise the positions of Program Advisor, Office
Coordinator, Administrative Secretary and/or other assigned staff.
Representative Duties
Plans, designs, directs and administers student leadership
training programs; coordinates functions with other college personnel and
departments in designing programs for students; develops and conducts student
leadership retreats, conferences and workshops; develops and implements
programs for students on volunteerism, student governance and student
activities; oversees the production of the student handbook; designs and
publishes student newsletter; plans and directs campus activities; develops and
provides a variety of student services and programs to include legal
assistance, transportation, insurance, referrals, cooperative training and
health/welfare information; advises students on fiscal responsibility and
student policy; provides guidelines for initiation of college
clubs/organizations/associations; reviews and approves reports generated by
clubs/organizations/associations; responds to state agency on facility
accessibility; provides a variety of crisis intervention services; facilitates
cultural programs for specific student populations; coordinates, reviews and
approves expenditures from student leadership accounts; administers budget;
supervises, trains and evaluates staff; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge
of: student leadership/development theory and practices; student governance;
special funding guidelines and regulations applicable to program; conflict
resolution and crisis intervention techniques; federal, state and local
policies and procedures.
Ability
to: plan, organize and manage multiple activities; develop and monitor budgets;
supervise the work of others; coordinate diverse student programs; plan,
develop and implement new programs and services; communicate effectively orally
and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons
contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in social and behavioral
science or related field and/or administrative experience in the management of
student services functions.
Special Conditions of Employment
This position may require
working extended hours.
