TITLE: FACILITIES PROJECT MANAGER

Job Summary

 

Provides direction in the operation and maintenance of central plants and buildings system for the new and existing system infrastructure throughout the District.  Advises on central plant equipment, HVAC, building operation, safety systems equipment and controls.

 

Scope

 

This position works in the area of facilities planning and development.  Work contacts include administrators, government agencies, outside architects, engineers, vendors and other maintenance and operations campus staff.  Equipment used includes facilities control systems, central plant computers and standard office equipment.

 

Supervision Received

 

This position reports directly to the Assistant Director Facilities Planning & Development; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.

 

Supervision Exercised

 

Supervises and directs vendors, contractors, and consultants. Directs various campus staff, departmental secretary and assigned staff.

 

Representative Duties

 

Provides design of mechanical, electrical and electronic systems and equipment; selects central plant and building equipment; analyzes investment cost factors, contract bids and unit costs; inspects construction projects; assists in the development of specifications; negotiates prices and recommends award; oversees completion of work; researches and monitors problems; oversees the districtwide energy conservation program; evaluates and negotiates energy rate tariffs; develops and implements emergency planning and assists in business recovery plans; acts as a liaison with State and government agencies and offices; provides analyses of, and recommendations to, long- and short-term budgets relating to facilities systems; provides assistance to campuses for analysis of system problems; maintains liaison with outside consultants, vendors and contractors; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: project management; energy conservation; mechanical, electrical and electronic building equipment and control systems both computerized and pneumatic; office software applications

 

Ability to: work independently; supervise the installation of HVAC and building operating and safety systems equipment; analyze and interpret utilities reports and billings; analyze cost factors; interpret engineering manuals, equipment specification and building code books; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

 

 

Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree and/or professional experience in mechanical/electrical engineering, facilities management, HVAC or electronic systems.

 

Special Conditions of Employment

 

Flexible hours may be required.  Valid Arizona driver’s license.

 

Working Conditions

 

Position is on a twenty‑four (24) hour emergency call.
