Job Summary
Assists the director in planning major gift acquisitions for
KJZZ, KBAQ, and Sun Sounds Radio Reading Service. Implements and directs
related activities.
Scope
This position works in the area of development. Work
contacts include community and business leaders, administrators, staff, local
and national corporate and foundation giving officers, gifts committee members,
prominent individuals, fund raising volunteers, local organization and
association contacts. Equipment used includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Director of Development;
receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific
instruction regarding non-routine and highly sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Provides direction to fund raising volunteers, and assigned
staff.
Representative Duties
Assists the Development Director in planning and
implementing a comprehensive major gifts program designed to generate financial
support from individuals, foundations and corporations for KJZZ, KBAQ, and Sun
Sounds; implements development programs which incorporate planning, strategizing,
prospect research, personal solicitations, follow-up, and long-term
donor/prospect cultivation; assists in recruiting, organizing and staffing
volunteer committees for the purpose of establishing relationships with and
conducting solicitations of new prospects and existing donors; provides
training, direction and support to fund raising volunteers and new fund raising
committee members; staffs solicitation calls and provides follow-up material
including proposal writing and submission; implements processes to sustain
cultivation efforts and maintain contact with existing donors to insure
long-term relationships; acts as liaison between individual
donor/prospects, KJZZ, KBAQ, and Sun
Sounds; identifies new gift potential; implements processes and activities for
the purpose of enlarging KJZZ, KBAQ, and Sun Sounds donor base to attract new
philanthropic involvement with the stations; performs related duties as
assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: public radio and the principles of Public
Radio fund raising; institutional fund raising, development and philanthropy;
techniques of individual donor cultivation and solicitation; community
leadership dynamics; volunteer development, training and management; proposal
writing.
Ability to: manage programs and solicitation strategies;
write effective proposals; maintain high degree of confidentiality; organize
and develop volunteer participation in fundraising programs; use computerized
fundraising records management system; communicate effectively orally and in
writing; give presentations; establish cooperative working relationships in the
course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree and/or demonstrated
experience implementing and managing development programs in Public Radio or
other non-profit institution.
Special Conditions of Employment
This position requires flexible work hours. Some evening and
weekend hours will be required as needed.
