Job Summary
Manages, coordinates, develops, and assesses district
services and initiatives related to diversity and inclusion.
Scope
This position works in assigned area. Work contacts include Chancellor, Vice Chancellor Human Resources, Diversity Advisory Council Chairpersons, administrators, faculty, staff, and students. Equipment used includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Vice Chancellor Human Resources but also communicates with the Chancellor about progress; receives general direction regarding routine matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
Work direction may be provided to college Diversity
Coordinators. May supervise student and/or temporary workers.
Representative Duties
Serves as the District Office Diversity Coordinator; plans,
advises and makes recommendation to executive staff for diversity initiatives;
coordinates and develops relevant discussions to support diversity efforts;
coordinates meetings with the college diversity coordinators; provides
oversight of college diversity coordinators’ efforts on a district wide basis
researches best practices on current diversity issues and trends; assesses
internal diversity efforts and develops reports regarding diversity matters;
prepares annual district monitoring report on diversity in collaboration with
Diversity Advisory Council; compiles, analyzes and maintains data related to
district wide diversity issues and initiatives; coordinates district wide
diversity special events; prepares promotional materials related to diversity
initiatives; collaborate with and convenes District employee constituency
groups to define their needs and provide support; develops and monitors
budgets; serves on District Diversity Advisory Council; serves as a resource to
appropriate Chancellor’s Community Advisory Councils; performs related duties as
assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: relative theories and practices that are
related to diversity and inclusion; educational and administrative computer
applications; interpersonal communication and relations; standard office
practices and procedures; college administrative policies; human resources
policies and procedures and regulations applicable to multicultural programs.
Ability to: research, evaluate, and develop diversity
initiatives in relation to District or college needs; conduct workshops, write
reports in easily understood terms ; communicate effective orally and in
writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in
the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in a related field and/or
experience in diversity, intercultural competency, assessment, data analysis,
coordinating and developing workshops.
