Job Summary
Manages and administers the Media Services
department and responsible
for technical support to classrooms. Supervises Help Desk staff that
provides
support on computer hardware and software issues to students, faculty
and
staff.
Scope
This position works in the area of media services. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, vendors, contractors and outside agencies and individuals using the college facilities. Equipment used includes a variety of media and teleconferencing equipment and standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on location/department, may
supervise the
positions of Audiovisual Technician, Help Desk Analysts and/or other
assigned staff.
Representative Duties
Manages, evaluates and administers the
media services
department responsible for day to day operations of the classroom
audio/visual
support services; oversees daily management of Help Desk operations and
Help
Desk staff; administers scheduling, delivery, maintenance and inventory
of audiovisual
equipment; manages a preventative maintenance program; oversees the
installation of classroom technology equipment; consults with faculty
on
classroom media needs; oversees production of media materials, the
television
broadband distribution system, and duplication services for students;
provides
instruction on use of classroom media; maintains campus media
inventory; supervises
assigned staff; prepares and monitors budget and capital equipment
requests;
acts as a resource to staff on media services and products; performs
related
duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: maintenance, operation and
instructional uses
of audiovisual equipment; methods and procedures for scheduling;
inventory
control; budget preparation; video production, audiovisual materials
and
equipment; large computer systems, personal computers and workstations;
computer applications.
Ability to: evaluate and select
audiovisual materials and
equipment; research, evaluate, and recommend technologies for a
college’s
needs; direct and coordinate the work of others; communicate effective
orally
and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with
persons
contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training,
and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be professional training or experience
in
educational media and the use of information technologies for an
organization.
