Job Summary
Develops and coordinates marketing and design planning,
support and implementation services for the District and colleges with special
emphasis on diversity, branding and recruitment for the purpose of supporting
the goals and objectives of the District.
Scope
This position works in the area of public relations. Work contacts include administrators, staff,
local and national media, community leaders, vendors, contractors and students.
Equipment used includes photography equipment and standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives
general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions
regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises the
positions of Coordinator Marketing, Coordinator Media Relations, Manager
Special Project/Marketing, Graphic Designer, Public Relations Coordinator,
Administrative Assistant and/or other assigned staff or students; oversees the
work of outside contractors.
Representative Duties
Manages the District's marketing and public relations
programs and coordinates with colleges; serves as the District designer and
works with colleges and departments regarding style guidelines and sets
standards for color, logo usage and advertising within the District; serves as
a liaison between marketing staff and the colleges; develops the advertising
plan for districtwide recruitment; creates ads for general outreach and
community advertising and special events; meets with management to develop
comprehensive plans and marketing collateral to promote or disseminate
information to internal and external audience; works with vendors and
advertisers to place all District advertising; works with specialty item
vendors, design agencies, photographers and video production companies;
maintains liaison with community organizations; supervises assigned staff;
assists supervisor in objectives, marketing strategy and research for the
District; manages the budget; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and
Abilities
Knowledge
of: print and electronic media requirements for production, broadcast and
placement of advertising materials; photography, graphic design, layout and
makeup for publications; marketing and public relations techniques; event
planning.
Ability
to: supervise staff; develop and coordinate media relations; coordinate
multiple projects; assess needs and establish goals through a variety of
marketing strategies; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish
cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of
performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in fine arts, graphic
design, marketing, advertising or related field and experience in design and
project management in a supervisory capacity.
Special Conditions of Employment
Evening hours may be required for special events or
activities.
