Job Summary
Manages, evaluates and provides leadership in the design,
development and implementation of a districtwide in-service technology training
department.
Scope
This position works in the area of technology training. Work
contacts include information technology personnel, college training
representatives, administrators, faculty, staff, instructional specialists,
vendors and professionals in the field of technology. Equipment used includes a
full range of computer and technology-related equipment, teaching and training
equipment specific to the Technology Training Center and college computer labs,
and a wide variety of software applications.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Director of Employee and
Organizational Development. Receives general direction regarding routine and
standard matters; specific instructions regarding non-routine and sensitive
matters.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises the positions of Technology Trainer, Coordinator
Instructional Technology Development, Office Coordinator and/or other assigned
staff. Provides consultative direction, training, and support to technology
trainers, college trainers and personnel, helpdesk personnel, and to the users
of computer systems throughout the District.
Representative Duties
Manages and provides leadership in the planning, development
and implementation of a district-wide-in-service technology training program;
plans, directs and evaluates instructional technology training to meet the
training needs of faculty, staff and administrators; collaborates with
administrators and technology personnel on the development and implementation
of district-wide training strategies for new technologies; performs front-end
analyses including needs assessment, task analysis, content analysis, learner
characteristic assessment, environmental review and instructional analysis;
assists in and provides support for staff development on instructional
applications of technologies and instructional methods; facilitates the
implementation of instructional innovations; develops and monitors budgets;
prepares administrative and financial reports; recommends capital equipment expenditures
for Technology Training Services and the Technology Training Center; hires,
trains and supervises assigned trainers and support staff; reviews and edits
materials and documentation; acts as a resource to colleges and educational
institutions regarding technology training and the planning of using technology
delivery formats; serves as liaison on training-related and technology-related
committees; provides leadership to the technology training staff and to the
Regional Training Committee; promotes Technology Training Services by providing
training opportunities at various Maricopa activities; performs the duties and
responsibilities of a technology trainer which include coordinating, conducting
and evaluating formal and informal in-service technology training and support
for all MCCCD employees; designs and develops training documentation; performs
related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: design and development of technology training
programs; practices in the administration of technology training programs;
administration and staff development, program development, budget preparation
and evaluation processes; instructional design principles, techniques and
procedures; software applications that include information processing, database
management, spreadsheet analysis, graphics and presentations; the Internet and
the world wide web; adult learning styles; college administrative policies;
current trends within technology marketplace; leadership, management,
supervisory and communication principles and techniques.
Ability to: plan, implement and evaluate technology training
programs; supervise faculty in the delivery of content via different
technologies; research and evaluate trends in information technologies; prepare
and administer budgets; manage multiple projects; work effectively with
committees to plan and implement technology training programs; develop
instructional objectives and user documentation; translate technical
information into clear, easily understood terms; rapidly learn new computer
technologies and systems; identify strengths and challenges of using various
delivery methods for technology training; train users in the use of a variety
of computer software and hardware; trouble-shoot computer user problems; identify
user training needs; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish
cooperative working relationships in the course of performing assigned duties
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities may be accepted. An example of this would be a college degree
in educational media, instructional technology, or related field and/or
experience in strategic planning, technology training and principles,
instructional design, computer applications, technology systems and hardware.
Special Conditions of Employment
Working Conditions
This position requires prolonged monitor viewing, extended
periods of standing on your feet, and extended periods of communicating on the
telephone. Local travel required. On occasion, weekend training and evening
hours may be required to meet faculty and shift-employee training needs.
