Job Summary
Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot various information technologies security systems in a Linux, Unix, Windows, Networking, Oracle, and SQL Server environment. Analyze Linux, Unix and Windows log files, configure information technology security software/hardware, and write and prepare security statistical reports.
Scope
This position works in the area of Information Technologies Services. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students outside vendors and manufacturers. Equipment used includes microcomputers, servers, network routers/switches, communications’ software/hardware and test equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Information Technology Security Manager; receives general direction regarding routine matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
Work direction may be given to students, temporary staff or
interns; consultative direction given to other district and/or college
employees.
Representative Duties
Implements information security interfaces in very complex
computing systems, applications and network software/hardware; evaluates
Internet-wide security threats in relation to local systems; communicates
potential information security exploits to college technical employees;
participates in the evaluation of proposed systems and applications to
determine information security or data integrity implications; develops and
maintains district-wide automated information technology security monitoring
and reporting mechanisms; develops and maintains various district-wide
information technology network security control systems such as firewalls,
intrusion detection systems, wireless networks, virtual private networks, and
network account access; analyze log files, and report breaches including
potential solutions; monitor network traffic activity district-wide; assist
college technical staff district-wide in troubleshooting and resolving network
security issues; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: various complex programming languages; server
operating systems; networking principles, design and architecture; information
technologies system and network security software and hardware.
Ability to: analyze, diagnose, and correct problems related
to information technologies security systems; research and assist in the design
and implementation of information and network security solutions; develop
applications for information security reporting purposes; troubleshoot
district-wide information technology system and network security issues;
communicate effectively orally and in writing, and establish cooperative
working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing
assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in Computer Science and/or
nationally recognized networking certifications, with experience in computer
languages such as Perl, php, Java, C, C++, and designing and implementing
networks and related information technologies security devices.
Special Conditions of Employment
Networking certifications such as CCIE preferred. Remotely monitor information technology security systems.
