Job Summary
Assists in directing the development and maintenance of
districtwide institutional management systems programming area.
Scope
This
position works in the area of information technologies. Work contacts include faculty, staff,
administrators and vendors. Equipment used includes standard office equipment and
a variety of computer hardware and software.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives
general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions
regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on
location/department, may supervise the positions of Database Administrator,
Programmer Analyst, Programmer and/or other assigned staff.
Representative Duties
Directly manages projects in institutional management
systems and indirectly provides support for the systems; consults with
institutional management systems users to determine systems needs; allocates
staff resources; supervises assigned staff; responds to problems and inquiries
related to the system; provides quality assurance; develops programming
specifications; assures integrity of software and hardware; analyzes impact of
policy revisions on the systems; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge
of: methods, practices and terminology used in systems programming, computer
applications of educational systems; system analysis.
Ability
to: plan, organize and manage multiple projects and technical staff; identify,
analyze and recommend solutions to system problems; analyze impact of policy
revisions on systems; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish
cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of
performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in information technology
or business administration and/or experience in system analysis and design with
a major database system.
