Job Summary
Plans, directs and implements a comprehensive student
development program including but not limited to, assessment and testing,
special admissions, advisement and enrollment management.
Scope
This position works in the area of advisement and
assessment. Work contacts include
administrators, faculty, staff, students, high schools, universities,
business/industry, community organizations and the general public. Equipment used includes standard office
equipment and various computer applications.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Vice President Student
Services; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters;
specific instructions regarding non‑routine and sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on location/department, may supervise the
positions of Coordinator Transfer Services, Coordinator Assessment Services,
Program Advisor, Office Coordinator, Administrative Secretary and/or other
assigned staff.
Representative Duties
Directs, plans and evaluates student development;
administers special admissions, assessment/testing, academic advisement and
enrollment management; ensures compliance with state, federal and district
regulations; develops and administers policies pertaining to overall
recordkeeping including advisement, assessment and testing, computer processing
and statistical information; rules on student eligibility questions for honors,
residency and eligibility in specific programs; advises and enforces college
policies relating to admissions and records, registration and advisement;
prepares and certifies assessment reports for state aid; rules on eligibility for
graduation and certificate programs; advises on awarding of credit through
transfer, exam, evaluation and by articulation; recommends and enforces
standards regarding admissions; prepares reports on instructional data and
student enrollment; hires, evaluates, supervises and trains assigned staff;
administers budget; interprets and resolves technical and complex issues and
problems; maintains liaison with students, faculty and others in resolving
student matters; develops and implements training for faculty and staffing
areas of academic advising, state/federal guidelines and interpretation of
assessment policies; performs transcript evaluation; confers with four‑year
institutions regarding information on transfer of credits; maintains compliance
with the Rehabilitation Act and Americans with Disabilities Act; coordinates
the development and implementation of classes, workshops and seminars related
to student development; formulates and evaluates goals and objectives of the
program; administers college articulation efforts; participates, plans and
coordinates student outreach efforts; performs related duties assigned.

Abilities
Knowledge
of: student development; advisement methods; college and district registration
and records maintenance procedures; curriculum and transfer of credits;
assessment/testing procedures; computer software systems; review and evaluation
practices; governmental and specially funded guidelines and regulations
applicable to college admissions.
Ability
to: manage comprehensive college student services area; organize and manage a
college recordkeeping function; coordinate a variety of college staff and
departments; manage several projects simultaneously; utilize technology in the
delivery of student development programs; determine student needs and translate
into recommendations for programs; interpret educational guidelines; advise
students; supervise assigned staff; prepare and administer budgets; communicate
effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships
with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in education and/or
experience in community college management, student development or student
assessment and testing.

Position may require extended hours.
