Job Summary

 

Develops, plans, administers and controls the operation of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Technical Maintenance School offering job training to post high school and re‑entry students state and nationwide to include all other aviation related programs.

 

Scope

 

This position works in the Aviation Center.  Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students, Federal and State agencies, business and industry, and the public.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment, aircraft, engines, and various aircraft tools and test equipment.

 

Supervision Received

 

This position reports to an assigned administrator or College President; receives broad instruction as to college goals and objectives in the area of responsibility.

 

Supervision Exercised

 

Supervises faculty, assigned staff, students and temporaries.

 

Representative Duties

 

Plans, directs and administers the operations of the Aviation Center; develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs in aviation; directs job development and placement services to meet the needs of local, state, and national employers; maintains an ongoing Aviation Advisory Council to provide guidance on Aviation Center curriculum and services, including the validation of training standards within FAA regulations and support services; develops and monitors budgets; prepares reports required by internal and external agencies; directs a system of record and reports to meet FAA requirements; provides leadership for the development and implementation of  all programs and services; directs facility planning and allocation; hires, supervises, and evaluates staff; develops operational policies; directs facility usage including construction planning; investigates, mediates, and resolves student and/or faculty problems; initates and participates in articulation activities with secondary and higher educational institutions; directs recruitment, screening and makes recommendations of faculty and staff within the guidelines of Federal Aviation Regulation Part 147; confers with members of industrial and business communities to determine aviation training needs; organizes industry experts in aviation related fields to provide technical and advisory assistance to faculty; represents the college at community, state and federal functions; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: administrative operations, procedures, and controls of FAA Technical Maintenance Schools; FAA Regulations; facility construction and design; inventory control; industry training needs; teaching methods and curriculum design; staff development and counseling techniques.

 

Ability to: plan and direct the activities of center; maintain liaison with Federal and State organizations; develop, implement, and evaluate programs in response to industry needs; administer budget; supervise staff in providing job development and placement services direct facility and equipment management operations; advise students; supervise, train, and evaluate staff; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be experience in teaching aviation technologies including broad experience base in aviation maintenance and aviation education administration, with FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate.

Special Conditions of Employment

 

Possession of a valid Airframe and Powerplant Certificate.  Position may require some travel.
