TITLE:  DIRECTOR CAREER/EDUCATIONAL PLANNING SERVICES

Job Summary

 

Administers, develops and implements programs to facilitate student career development, job placement and educational planning.  

 

Scope

 

This position works in the area of career services.  Work contacts include students, administrators, faculty, staff, business and industry representatives and the general public.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment. 

 

Supervision Received

 

This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters. 

 

Supervision Exercised

 

Depending on location/department, may supervise the positions of Coordinator Job Placement, Program Advisor, Office Coordinator, Administrative Secretary and/or other assigned staff.

 

Representative Duties

 

Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates career planning and placement and adult re-entry services; supervises, trains and evaluates staff; maintains liaison with internal/external committees and organizations for student recruitment and retention purposes and to link supervised services; prepares and controls budget; formulates and evaluates goals and objectives of the program; oversees the selection of occupational and educational materials used in the center; coordinates the collection and dissemination of information on job requirements, labor market conditions, forecasts and economic development in the community; develops and implements programming to address the special needs of re-entry students; supervises a student job placement program including computerized job listings, job referrals and on-campus recruitment by employees; organizes and implements assessment policies and procedures; prepares reports and presentations; performs related duties as assigned. 

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: career and education development concepts; job development and job placement techniques; business/industry requirements for a variety of jobs.

 

Ability to: plan, organize and manage multiple activities; develop and monitor budgets; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 


Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in counseling, education or related field and/or experience in career counseling along with administrative or management experience in an educational setting. 

 

Special Conditions of Employment

 

This position requires working extended hours.
