Job Summary
Develops, implements and directs a major gifts program on a
district-wide level for the purpose of generating financial support.
Scope
This position works in the area of development. Work contacts include administrators, gifts
committee, Foundation Board members, donors, volunteers, business and industry,
community leaders, local organization and association contacts, faculty,
students, alumni and media. Equipment used includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Executive Director Development;
receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific
instruction regarding non-routine and highly sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Provides direction to committee members, volunteers and
administrators
Representative Duties
Develops, implements and directs a comprehensive major gifts
program designed to generate financial and non-financial support from
individuals and families for the Maricopa Community College District; develops
and implements donor relations and development programs which incorporate
planning, strategizing, prospect research, personal solicitations, follow-up
and long-term donor/prospect cultivation; recruits, organizes and staffs
volunteer committees for the purpose of establishing relationships with and
conducting solicitations of new prospects and existing donors; provides
training, direction and support to volunteers, committee members and board
members; staffs solicitation calls and provides follow-up material including
proposal writing and submission; implements processes to sustain cultivation
efforts and maintain contact with existing donors to insure strong long-term
relationships; acts as liaison between individual donor/prospects and the
Maricopa Community Colleges; identifies and develops new gift potential;
directs and develops cultivation processes and activities for the purpose of
developing and enlarging the donor base by attracting new individual
philanthropic involvement; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: principles of institutional advancement,
development and philanthropy; techniques of individual donor cultivation and
solicitation; community leadership dynamics; volunteer development, training
and management; proposal writing.
Ability to: manage and develop programs and solicitation
strategies; write effective proposals; maintain high degree of confidentiality;
organize and develop volunteer participation in fundraising programs; use
computerized fundraising records management system; communicate effectively
orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons
contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree and/or demonstrated
experience implementing and directing a development program in higher education
or non-profit institution.
Special Conditions of Employment
This position requires flexible work hours. Some positions
may require a Class D Driver’s License.
