TITLE: DIRECTOR INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT SERVICES AND STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

Job Summary

 

Administers a comprehensive program of Instructional Support Services and Student Development Program within existing policies and procedures.

 

Scope

 

This position works in an assigned area.  Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students, general public, and state/federal agencies.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment.

 

Supervision Received

 

This position reports to an appropriate Dean/Associate Dean; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters and specific instructions regarding non‑routine and sensitive matters.

 

Supervision Exercised

 

Supervises assigned staff.

 

Supervision Duties

 

Plans, organizes, oversees, and evaluates Instructional Support Services and Student Development program of the college; oversees for Monitoring Academic Progress System (MAPS), a tracking system and academic advising; develops and implements training for faculty and staff in the areas of academic advising, state/federal guidelines on disabled student regulations, and interpretation of assessment policies; prepares statistical analysis of student assessment results; coordinates and implements the Individual Vocational Education Plan (IVEP) for all identified students to support federal grant monies; maintains articulation with state/private colleges and universities to deliver a transfer services program; oversees computer lab for the delivery of instruction for disabled students; collects various data and follow‑up survey results to assist in the development and implementation of programs; chairs College Advisory Committees for Student Development Programs and Instructional Support Services; presents program to the community and professional functions; assists academic departments in developing methodology and strategies for delivery of instruction to special needs population; writes and publishes informational materials about programs; develops and publishes an Academic Advising Training Manual; prepares appropriate statistical and narrative reports required by local, state and federal agencies; establishes a referral service of resources for students, faculty, and staff; maintains compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and Americans with Disabilities Act; develops and delivers workshops; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: development theory; counseling methods; students with special needs; assessment/testing procedures; computer software systems; psychological/sociological statistical methods; government and private funding guidelines and regulations; program review and evaluation practices; section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (and the amendments), Americans with Disabilities Act, Family Rights and Privacy Act, Immigration and Naturalization Service regulations; proposal and grant writing; management theory.

 

Ability to: administer budget; resolves student issues with the faculty and staff; manage several projects simultaneously; utilize technology in the delivery of instruction and student development programs; prepare statistical and narrative reports; supervise faculty and staff; communicate effectively orally and in writing and establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in counseling, education, or related field, and/or experience in community college management and delivery of instruction and student development programs.
