Job Summary
Plans, directs and evaluates the design and implementation
of curriculum applications for alternative delivery courses for the
college.
Scope
This position works in the area of
instructional technology. Work contacts
include faculty, administrators, students, public and external agencies. Equipment used includes standard office
equipment and a variety of computer
hardware and software.
Supervision Received
This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives
general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions
regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on
location/department, may supervise the positions of Administrative Secretary, Clerk
Typist, Office Coordinator, Community Education Technician and/or other
assigned staff.
Representative Duties
Selects, plans, directs and implements instructional
technology applications for the college for alternative delivery courses;
analyzes and evaluates new technologies for potential applications in the
production of courses for alternative delivery; manages projects for
development and implementation of new technology programs and services;
participates in courseware and software acquisitions; plans technology formats;
acts as a resource to faculty and educational institutions in the use of
technology delivery formats; promotes the implementation of technological
innovations; supervises and evaluates full time and part time staff; performs
related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: current techniques for the design, development
and delivery of instruction and curriculum; instructional technologies; various
microcomputer hardware, peripherals and microcomputer operating systems;
technology based systems; various microcomputer software packages (including
information processing, database management, spreadsheet analysis, graphics and
web design); authoring languages and
systems.
Ability to: diagnose microcomputer and other technology and
software programs; identify advantages and limitations of using various
technologies for instructional and other purposes; coordinate activities with a
variety of college staff and departments; assist in the development and
production of college-level courses for delivery through communication
technologies; meet deadlines; supervise and evaluate assigned staff; prepare
budgets; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative
working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing
assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in education or related
field and/or experience in computer courseware design and instructional
technology.
