Job Summary

 

Plans, directs, coordinates and implements the international education program at a college; oversees international student services; develops a marketing and recruitment plan for international students; develops study abroad and exchange programs; coordinates international/intercultural awareness activities on campus.

Scope

 

This position works in an assigned area.  Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, prospective students, the public, and agencies that serve persons from other nations.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment.

 

Supervision Received

 

This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and sensitive matters.

 

Supervision Exercised

 

Depending on location/department, may supervise the positions of Coordinator Student Services, Student Services Specialist, Administrative Secretary, Project Coordinator, Office Coordinator and/or other assigned staff.

 

Representative Duties

 

Plans and administers the development and coordination of an international education program; develops and implements a marketing and recruitment plan for international students including development of promotional materials, web sites, advertising, and outreach; establishes linkages with foreign educational institutions and State and federal agencies that provide services for international students; plans, develops and monitors participation in study abroad and faculty, staff and student exchange programs including promotion, advising, and orientation; develops educational outreach activities in schools, community agencies, community organizations, and related organizations to encourage international students to attend higher education/post secondary programs; advises students in matters of visa and immigration issues; assures college compliance with federal immigration regulations pertaining to international students; oversees orientation, advising and retention services for international students; recommends the development or offering of courses beneficial to the students; develops in‑service training for instructors, staff and administrators working with international students; coordinates and implements international/intercultural events, training and projects; develops programs for hosting international visitors; prepares and monitors budget; supervises assigned staff; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: academic advising techniques; visa and immigration requirements; program development; educational and supportive needs and services; career and educational development concepts; practices in international student, study abroad and exchange program management; cross-cultural training.

 

Ability to: advise international students; understand diverse populations and demonstrate cultural awareness; design and administer programs for domestic and international students including recruitment, retention and curriculum; supervise assigned staff; develop and administer budgets; make presentations; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

 

Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in education or related field and/or experience in the program administration for domestic and international students. Bilingual with a demonstrated proficiency in writing and speaking preferred.
