Job Summary
Plans, manages and administers the activities and operations
of Sun Sounds of Arizona, a provider of broadcast and information access reading services for
individuals unable to utilize print media.
Scope
This position works in the area of Sun Sounds. Work contacts include faculty, staff,
students, national and local agencies and organizations and the general
public. Equipment used includes audio
production and standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the General Manager KJZZ/KBAQ/Sun
Sounds; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters;
specific instructions regarding non‑routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises the positions of Assistant Director Development,
Operations Director, Program Coordinator, Administrative Assistant and/or other Station Managers assigned staff and volunteer help
working at the station and associated operations in the State.
Representative Duties
Administers and plans all activities of the station;
develops strategic plans; monitors station programming and technical
performance; develops operational policies, procedures and guidelines;
supervises and evaluates staff and volunteers; creates and implements
strategies for funding; prepares and monitors budgets; maintains compliance
with Federal Communications Commission Rules and Regulations, and policies and
procedures of MCCCD; maintains liaison with outside organizations; represents
program to outside agencies and the community; performs related duties as
assigned.
Knowledge and
Abilities
Knowledge
of: public telecommunications law; public broadcasting; information access services; technical
operation of a radio station; fundraising; special needs of the blind,
physically disabled and elderly communities using radio reading services.
Ability
to: direct a full range of station activities; prepare and monitor budgets;
maintain compliance with FCC rules and MCCCD guidelines; supervise and organize
work of assigned staff; assist staff in creating and implementing fundraising
endeavors; recruit and train volunteers; communicate effectively orally and in
writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in
the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in broadcasting or related
field and/or experience in a radio reading service or public radio entity in a
supervisory capacity.
