TITLE: DIRECTOR TESTING SERVICES

Job Summary


Plans and directs a comprehensive testing services system including on-site and on-line assessment and evaluation programs and services of the college.  Provides training and support to other college testing units as needed. Conducts and provides research, analysis, and interpretation of data.  Plans and develops reports and recommendations for college administrators.

 

Scope


This position works in an assigned area. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff and students.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment.

 

Supervision Received


This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.

 

Supervision Exercised


Depending on location/department, may supervise the positions of Testing Technician, Computer Maintenance Technician, Office Coordinator, Testing Clerk, proctors and/or other assigned staff.

 

Representative Duties


Plans and directs comprehensive student testing services and evaluation activities at multiple local sites, and for out-of-state/country, military, incarcerated, and special needs programs for both on-line distance learners and on-site students; works with college faculty and administrators to plan and coordinate complex services including placement exams, ongoing college coursework evaluations, national standardized exams, e.g., CLEP and DANTES, and State professional certification assessments, e.g., the Board of Dental Hygiene; responsible for enforcement of professional standards to ensure security and integrity of all exams and the administration of standardized tests; maintains updated requirements for district, State and federal reporting procedures, as well as technological advances for on-line testing implementation and security maintenance; participate in testing and implementation of new technologies related to area; establishes assessment policies and procedures; develops and implements research design; provides direction for computer program design and development required for data collection/analyses; plans and conducts data collection and analyzes findings; keeps current with all curriculum changes related to prior learning evaluation, course assessment, and exam revisions; directs administration of college effectiveness measurement tools, including the Minnesota Language Proficiency, Teacher Prep Accuplacer and College Academic Proficiency exams; develops goals and objectives for learning strategies; trains staff; may advise faculty on program revisions for educational improvement and innovation; maintains department budget; provides resource materials; prepares reports; evaluates program; performs related duties as assigned.

 

 Knowledge and Abilities


Knowledge of: research methods; statistical analyses; basic on-line computer applications; professional certification tests and measurements; academic assessment tools and procedures; policies and procedures associated with distance learning, computer based, accelerated, proctored and traditional learning formats.

 

Ability to: design and coordinate projects; interpret technological requirements for on-line testing services and data collection, reporting and evaluation applications; supervise and train staff; prepare reports; manage budgets; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

Training and Experience


Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in education or related field, and/or demonstrated supervisory experience in assessment program services or research methodology.
