Job Summary

 

Develops the District's linkages with the business and industrial community through economic development activities and workforce recruitment.

 

Scope

 

This position works in the area of business and workforce development.  Work contacts include representatives of business and industry, government agencies, administrators, faculty, staff and the community.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment.

 

Supervision Received

 

Under the direction of the Director Business & Workforce Development; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters. 

 

Supervision Exercised

 

May supervise the positions of Coordinator Adult Re-entry and/or other assigned staff; provides work direction to a department secretary and other office staff.

 

Representative Duties

 

Participates in economic development activities to attract new business and industry to the county; assists in the development of information materials for clients on available training services and dissemination of information to appropriate agencies, economic development professionals, etc.; works collaboratively with local community economic development agencies to support the retention of business in Maricopa County; assists new firms locating in Maricopa County with work force acquisition assistance; researches, collects and analyzes labor market information for selected areas; performs workforce development activities including occupational master planning, occupational program development, curriculum processes; administrates Carl Perkins Grant, and coordinates other regional and statewide initiatives; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: current business and industry training needs, economic development issues and activities; organizational structure and relationships in business and industry; instructional methodologies for adult learners; budget and program planning and development; project management.

 

Ability to: understand economic development issues and conduct effective supporting activities; conduct labor market research; make effective oral and written presentations; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 


Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in economics, business administration or related field and/or responsible experience in the coordination of economic development activities or occupational education to meet employer needs.

 

Special Conditions of Employment

 

This classification may require the incumbent to be available to attend meetings outside of regular business hours.

 

Working Conditions

 

Local travel is required.
