Job Summary
Design, develop, implement and troubleshoot various information technology security system software and hardware in Unix, Windows, Linux, Networking, Oracle and SQLServer environment. Proactive operational responsibility for incident intrusion prevention and detection, provide technical assistance to the Director Information Technology Security Planning during the investigation of information technology security incidents and report on findings.
Scope
This position works in the area of Information Technologies Services. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students, outside vendors, and manufacturers. Equipment used includes microcomputers, servers, network switches, communications’ software/hardware and test equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Director Information Technology Security Planning; receives general direction regarding routine matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises Network Security Engineer and other assigned
staff.
Representative Duties
Plans, directs, and manages the operation of information
technology security systems; provides technical leadership, expertise and
direction working with district and college technical staff for design and
implementation of information technology security systems; manages information
security risk assessments of district-wide enterprise computer systems;
evaluates and responds to Internet-wide security threats in relation to local
systems; coordinates the operation of district-wide information technology
systems; develops best technical practices for securing enterprise wide data
and information systems; assists the Director Information Technology Security
Planning in the long range planning and development of information technology
security strategies, systems architecture and policies; proactively monitors security
levels of information technology systems district-wide and establishes baseline
security models; works with external law enforcement, College Presidents and
Technology Directors, Legal, Human Resources and Internal Audit as necessary to
provide technical expertise concerning information technology security
incidents; supervises assigned staff; works with outside vendors; performs
related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: project management; system software;
enterprise application development methodologies in a 2 and 3-tiered computing
environment; complex programming languages; database administration; networking
principles, protocols and architecture; current trends in information
technology network and system security software and hardware.
Ability to: build and manage project teams; coordinate
diverse technical staff to assist in the response to information technology
security incidents; analyze, diagnose, and correct problems related to
information technology security systems; research, recommend, design and
implement security solutions; assist technical staff district-wide in designing
and implementing security software and hardware; organize and prioritize
workload; supervise and evaluate staff; communicate effectively orally and in
writing and establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted
in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in Computer Science and/or
experience with complex programming languages such as Java, C++, and designing
and implementing information technology system and network security solutions
in a complex enterprise computing environment.
Special Conditions of Employment
Be aware of global information technology security threats that could impact local systems 24/7. Remotely monitor and adjust security systems in response to emergent threats.
