Job Summary
Administers specific enrollment services programs, including
advisement and assessment as well as specialized student development services
such as Multicultural Services, Disability Resources and Services and American
Indian Services in multiple sites and modalities.
Scope
This position works in the area of advisement. Work contacts
include administrators, faculty, staff, students and the public. Equipment used
includes standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to a Vice President or assigned
administrator; receives general direction regarding routine and standard
matters; specific instruction regarding non-routine and highly sensitive
matters.
Supervision Exercised
Depending on location/department, may supervise managers of
Assessment, Multicultural Services, American Indian Center, and Disability
Resources and Services, Program Advisors, departmental secretaries and support
staff.
Representative Duties
Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates student services
areas including advisement, assessment, multicultural services, the American
Indian Center and disability resources and services; supervises and evaluates
staff; develops and implements training for faculty and staff in the areas of
academic advising, state/federal guidelines of disabled student regulations and
interpretations of assessment policies; plans and directs service provisions in
alternate modalities and languages such as web-based and phone access student
services to several locations; represents college on statewide task forces and
committees; maintains articulation with state/private colleges and universities
to deliver a transfer services program; assists academic departments in
developing methodology and strategies for delivery of instruction to special
needs population; ensures compliance with Section 504 the Rehabilitation Act
and the Americans with Disabilities Act; ensures compliance with grant
requirements; provides direction to community service and recruitment outreach
and special programming for minority students including American Indian
reservations; develops and monitors budgets; writes and publishes informational
materials about programs; prepares statistical and narrative reports required
by local, state and federal agencies; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: student development theory and practices;
counseling methods; students with special needs; computerized on-line systems;
assessment/testing methods and procedures; governmental and private funding
guidelines and procedures; proposal and grant writing; internet-based or
"virtual" service provision; budget development; Section 504 of the
Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act; Family Rights and
Privacy Act; Immigration and Naturalization Service regulations; management
theory.
Ability to: manage comprehensive college student services
area; coordinate a variety of college staff and departments; manage several
projects simultaneously; utilize technology in the delivery of student
development programs; interpret educational guidelines; advise students;
supervise assigned staff; prepare and administer budgets; communicate
effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships
in the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in counseling, education or
related field and/or experience in community college management and delivery of
student development programs.
