Job Summary
Directs the development and implementation of technology
applications, within a college/district environment.
Scope
This position works in the area of Information Technologies
Services/Information Resources. Work
contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, the public and the media. Equipment used includes audio and video
teleconference equipment and standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Vice Chancellor Information
Technologies or assigned dean. Operates under broad direction. Receives general
direction regarding routine and standard matters and specific instructions regarding
non‑routine and sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises assigned staff and directs the activities of
faculty and staff on project assignment.
Representative Duties
Plans, directs, implements and evaluates technology
applications for the college/district; provides leadership for the development
and implementation of new technology programs and services; plans and
implements technology systems; coordinates courseware and software
acquisitions; assists colleges/district in planning technology delivered
formats; recommends staffing and facility needs to the Vice Chancellor/Dean;
conducts on‑site assessment of programs and facilities; directs training
to support the use of technology; develops and recommends budget requests for
operational, capital, revenue and grant funds to the Vice Chancellor/dean;
administers approved budgets from all fund sources in accordance with college,
district and/or agency guidelines; identifies appropriate funding sources and
prepares applications and proposals according to grant guidelines when
appropriate; serves on appropriate college, districtwide and community
committees; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: current practices in the administration of
technology programs; technology based systems; design and development;
administration, staff development, program development, budget preparation, and
evaluation processes.
Ability to: plan, direct, implement and evaluate technology
programs; supervise assigned staff; coordinate activities with a variety of
college staff and departments; assist in the development of college‑level courses for delivery
through communication technologies; prepare and administer budget; communicate effectively orally and in writing
and establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the
course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training, and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in a technology related
field and/or experience in community college management, and technology
programs, telecommunications or related field.
