Job Summary

 

Plans, implements and directs a center responsible for academic advisement, disability services, admissions, registration, records, graduation checkout, recruitment and retention.

 

Scope

 

This position works in the area of student services.  Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, students and the public.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment.

 

Supervision Received

 

This position reports to an assigned administrator; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.

 

Supervision Exercised

 

Depending on location/department, may supervise the positions of Director Admissions, Registration & Records, Manager Disability Resources & Services, Supervisor Admissions, Registration & Records, Coordinator Transfer Services, Coordinator Corporate & Government Programs, Coordinator Student Services, Program Advisor and/or other assigned staff.

 

Representative Duties

 

Responsible for administering admissions, records, registration, advisement and disability resources programs at the college; interprets policies pertaining to the overall admission, records and registration program at the college; plans directs and evaluates student services areas including advisement, disability services and resources, records, registration, admissions, graduation checkout, recruitment and retention; coordinates functions with other college personnel; ensures compliance with state, federal and District regulations; develops and administers policies pertaining to the overall recordkeeping function of the college including class rosters, student applications, permanent records, transcripts, credits, grading, withdrawals, computer processing and statistical information; responsible for the security and confidentiality of student records; advises and enforces college policies relating to admissions, registration and records; works with federal agencies; prepares and administers budget; hires, evaluates, supervises and trains staff; ensures compliance with Section 504; represents the college on district, college and statewide councils and committees; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: Student development theory and practices, Family Education Rights & Privacy Act, student service models, management theory, college registration and records maintenance procedures; Section 504; computerized on‑line registration systems; governmental and special funding guidelines and regulations applicable to college admissions and registration functions.

 

Ability to: organize and manage a college record keeping function; supervise the work of others; prepare, maintain and interpret statistical data; prepare and administer budgets; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in a related field and/or demonstrated experience in a supervisory or management capacity in student services.

 

Special Conditions of Employment

 

Position may require incumbent to work extended hours.
