Job Summary
Plans, directs, facilitates and supervises
the assessment,
design, development, implementation and evaluation of instructional
materials,
curriculum, technologies and programs. Supervises instructional
designers,
instructional technologists and staff.
Scope
This position works in the area of Educational Development. Work contacts include administrators, faculty, staff, educational professionals from public and private sectors; equipment used includes video conferencing systems, AV and standard office equipment.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Vice President Academic Affairs or assigned dean; receives general direction regarding routine matters and specific instructions regarding non-routine matters.
Supervision Exercised
Supervises assigned instructional
designers, instructional
technologists, staff, interns, and contractors.
Representative Duties
Plans, directs, implements and evaluates
strategies that
drive the assessment, design, development, implementation and
evaluation of
instructional materials and the instructional technologies; directs and
supervises instructional designers, instructional technologists and
assigned
staff; consults with faculty, administrators, and instructional staff
on issues
related to the selection, implementation and evaluation of
instructional
materials and instructional technologies to promote effective teaching
and
learning; directs designers and technologists in the use of front end
analyses
including needs assessment, task analysis, content analysis, learner
characteristic assessment, environmental review, and instructional
analysis;
applies and modifies various instructional design models and
instructional
systems components to develop thorough instructional and learning
systems and
environments; designs and directs others in the development of
measurement
instruments and the use of qualitative and quantitative analyses and
interpretation of data; develops and provides faculty development
activities,
in-service training and innovations, selection and construction of
materials,
and instructional uses of new technologies; directs and conducts
applied
research and evaluation, interprets data, and recommends procedures and
solutions for effective learning and instruction; explores and
evaluates new
technologies, materials, and techniques for their applicability to
educational
uses; coordinates and/or consults on special learning, instructional,
and
assessment programs and projects; researches and develops applications
of new
technologies for learning and instruction; performs related duties as
assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of: current practices of
administration of college
programs and budget management; current techniques and procedures used
in the
design, development, and evaluation of instructional program, methods,
materials, and instruments; advanced educational research, evaluation,
and
statistics; instructional application of new technologies; research and
development on learning environments; classroom assessment techniques
and
faculty development principles and applications; adult learning
theories and
concepts and cultural diversity; alternative and authentic assessment
methods
and techniques; change processes, organizational development, and
systems
thinking and development.
Ability to: plan, direct and supervises
multiple
instructional design projects and manage variety of specialized
personnel, both
internal and external to the college; design, develop and evaluate
instructional materials and programs; conduct formative and summative
evaluation/procedures and instruments; write instructional objectives;
design
lessons, and develop assessment instruments that measure students
learning;
design and interpret a variety of needs analysis; implement research
and
evaluation methodologies; troubleshoot instructional and learning
problems in a
variety of settings; train faculty; communicate effective orally and in
writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons
contacted in
the course of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience
Any combination of education, training,
and experience that
provides the required knowledge and abilities.
An example of this would be a college degree in Instructional
Design,
Learning/Educational Psychology, Educational Technology, Higher
Education
Leadership or related field and/or applied experience in educational
leadership, instructional design and development with experience in
learning
and instruction, program development and evaluation.
