TITLE: DIRECTOR INTERNATIONAL/INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION

Job Summary

 

Plans, directs and coordinates international/intercultural education programs at the district level.  Provides support to international/intercultural programs/activities at the colleges.

 

Scope

 

This position works in the area of international education.  Work contacts include College Presidents, administrators, faculty, staff, students, a variety of community, government and business organizations, other national/international educational institutions and the public.  Equipment used includes standard office equipment.

 

Supervision Received

 

This position reports to the Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs & Student Development; receives general direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions regarding non‑routine and highly sensitive matters.

 

Supervision Exercised

 

Supervises the positions of Office Coordinator and/or and other assigned staff; provides project management direction to District International/Intercultural steering committee and college intercultural/intercultural committees.

 

Representative Duties

 

Provides leadership, promotes, develops and coordinates the concept of international/intercultural education nationally and throughout the district; directs the implementation of district international/intercultural strategic plans in conjunction with steering committee and college committees; identifies opportunities for partnerships and contract training abroad; oversees the travel and study-abroad programs for staff and students; provides guidance on various aspects of international/intercultural education with respect to visa and immigration issues, faculty exchange guidelines and curriculum internationalization efforts; coordinates international/intercultural district services which includes an information/resource center on national programs with on‑going international/intercultural programs; promotes/supports college international/intercultural strategic plans and consults on their implementation; obtains external funding for international/intercultural program which includes grants and foundation sources; serves as member of MCCCD internal grants committee and oversees administration of all grants related to international/intercultural education; reviews, audits, updates and reports on administration of international/intercultural strategic plan annually; represents MCCCD in all international activities and international conferences; maintains liaison with various national associations; performs related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: international curriculum development; visa and immigration guidelines; practices in delivery of international curriculum; research design techniques; grant/proposal writing; program evaluation techniques.

 

Ability to: design international programs to meet business/industry needs; assess needs, diagnose problems and recommend appropriate solutions; make effective oral and written presentations; communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

 

Training and Experience

 

Any combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  An example of this would be a college degree in education or related field with academic experience in the administration of international/intercultural programs.

 

Special Conditions of Employment

 

May be required to travel locally, nationally and outside of continental U.S.
